HISTORY
Founded in 2004, DTJ was created in response to injustice and suffering around the world. DTJ’s launch was marked by three friend’s inaugural journey around the world to discover
injustice and suffering on a global scale, capture it with cameras and communicate it to awaken an unknowing world. The driving force of this journey was an ancient proverb which bids all to SPEAK UP for those who cannot speak for themselves, and to ENSURE JUSTICE for those who are suffering. [Proverbs 31:8-9]

Discover The Journey was officially incorporated as a non-profit 501(c)3 organization in March of 2006. Speaking up and ensuring justice continues to be the heartbeat of DTJ’s creative, educational and advocacy work.

TODAY
Discover The Journey is a team of journalists and story-tellers who expose injustices facing children in-crisis and advocate for intervention partners until change is realized. DTJ filmmakers, writers, photographers, artists, and designers create and use story, media and art to expose injustices facing children and to use that media to advocate for change. DTJ partners with viable and effective NGOs and organizations found within communities to channel human and financial resources to impact people facing injustice.

Discover The Journey’s media, story and artistic professionals have worked in over 60 nations to bring light and hope to some of the darkest situations and issues children in-crisis encounter and inspire others to take action for the sake of love for these children.

MISSION
Discover The Journey exists to:
SPEAK UP for children in-crisis by exposing injustices affecting children around the world through story, media and art, and to ENSURE JUSTICE for children in-crisis by advocating for intervention across cultures in Love.

VISION
Discover The Journey will become the foremost recognized international media outlet for story, media and art concerning children living in crisis caused by injustice, poverty and war. DTJ will also have a respected and viable track record as well as a committed future in creative education and advocacy, ensuring justice for children world-wide. Through mobilizing
intervention partners to respond in Love, a compassion modeled after a posture of listening to God will inform all story-telling and serve to reshape the way narrative is used to influence culture and transform the lives of children.

OUR PROCESS

1. DTJ discovers an injustice facing a child or group of children through research or referral.
2. According to our resources, a DTJ team of journalists and story-tellers begins working alongside nationals to unwrap the story and develop a strategy to expose the injustice.
3. DTJ develops, creates and produces excellent media and advocacy tools to most effectively communicate the injustice and present the story of the children.
4. DTJ media is strategically distributed to advocate for intervention partners, developing and maturing those relationships.
5. DTJ continues to journey with the specific story and children affected until change is realized, the definition of which will change on a case to case basis.
