What is Discover the Journey?

Discover The Journey exists to INCITE awareness on behalf of children at-risk around the world, INITIATE heart transformation in our culture, and INSPIRE right action in response to Christ's love for humanity.

We are a non-profit organization dedicated to speaking up for those whose voices are silenced through oppression, war and poverty and ensuring justice for those who are suffering through the use of relevant and gripping forms of media. We want to see a holistic care movement for children at-risk around the corner and throughout the world, driven and sustained by the global church.

Discover The Journey is recognized as a registered 501(c)(3) organization in the United States. We are based in Costa Mesa, California, USA.

What kind of work is fueled and sustained by donations?

Discover The Journey's media has uncovered and exposed grevious injustices facing children at-risk throughout the world and galavanize action on their behalf by giving platform for their stories to be told and heard. We work internationally and have walked with almost every category of children at-risk including street children, children in bonded slavery, HIV/AIDS orphans, child soldiers, refugee/IDP children, the girl child, the unborn, trafficked children, abused children, neglected/abandoned children, and institutionalized children in effort to be a strong and leading advocate for children on a global scale. We are after hearts and seek to people to step deeper into the task of caring for these children.

Are you a Christian organization?

Yes we are. And by Christian, we mean followers of the person Jesus Christ, who was the greatest lover of all, laying down His life for those whom He loved before time even began. Jesus fought injustice through the shedding of His own blood, and we look to Him as the giver of peace, love and justice. God's heart is inextricably linked with care for the oppressed and the vulnerable. And so we are students of the Author Himself. We are too weak and powerless on our own to make any lasting change. And so we join with the One who is already turning brokenness into beauty.

And by organization, we mean a group of Christ-loving people who have joined hands at God's bidding to pool our passions, talents and heartbeats to love the oppressed and children at-risk.

Who does DTJ serve?

DTJ serves the poor, the oppressed and children at-risk by advocating on their behalf, and being a messenger of Truth. DTJ serves the developed world by being one vessel of many who are hoping to usher forth a paradigm shift in the local church so that those who follow Jesus can indeed embody His teachings on loving the oppressed through right action.

Discover The Journey is committed to serving and loving people as Jesus did, regardless of religious beliefs, gender, race, ethnicity, political affliliation, or cultural background. We are not affiliated directly with any sect or denomination, rather individuals within the organization are followers of the way of Jesus.

But ultimately, DTJ serves Jesus, the God-man who has created hope from destitution, life from ashes and is currently making all things new.

What type of projects does DTJ do?

Go to the Initiatives section to learn about what we are involved in. We do not have any on-the-ground projects, however, but we can and want to point you to organizations that do! Check out our Comrades section, to see who is doing what and where.

DTJ is primarily engaged with being a vehicle of exposure. We want to use media to open people's eyes and hearts to injustices, inspire them to help, and then facilitate their action. We hope to channel the energy created when people see our media towards organizations that are currently working to tackle those issues. Rather than creating our own programs, in many cases, we would rather partner with trusted and committed non-profits, ministries, agencies, and churches that demonstrate viable and effective work for the poor and oppressed, the orphan and the widow.

How can I take action in response to injustice?

We very much want you to take action in response to the injustices you are learning about, but we want to guide you into "right action". We believe there is a large gulf between "right action" and all the rest. Check out the Move section to learn about ways you can take action through DTJ. But there are also many other ways to respond outside of DTJ! Look at the Comrades section and Partners to see who else is working to fight injustice, and consider diving in to what they are doing.

Does DTJ currently have any job openings?

Do you send teams to Uganda?

At this point we are not sending or hosting trips to Uganda or anywhere else. The filming of the documentaries and the World Communiqués are done by the DTJ team.

How are you funded?

Discover The Journey is funded by individuals, churches, companies and grants from other organizations and foundations.

At Discover The Journey, we hold true to the fact that we serve a very rich King. We believe that when God has a task for you, He always faithfully provides for it. So ultimately, when it comes to the task of telling the stories of children at-risk around the world, we look to God's hand alone for funding. And as proven again and again, He has never failed. Of course our funding doesn't drop from the sky, but always flows through His people, and consistently we see the hand of the Father of the fatherless moving in peoples hearts to give without our asking. Though we have made it possible for people to donate online to help fuel our quest and vision, we have never had to ask individuals to give, and God continues to provide abundantly. We are more interested than your heart than your money.

How can I know that you are investing my financial support wisely?

Within Discover The Journey, we see we have a clear responsibility to be wise stewards of all the resources we are entrusted to us. Thus we are committed to maximizing these resources carry our mission on behalf of children at-risk around the world. Discover The Journey maintains integrity, openness and transparency with all of our financial practices in order to fulfilling Biblical principles, legal standards and state and federal laws and guidelines. Does Discover The Journey partner with other organizations to help them with their media needs?

Yes we do. Though our deepest passion is to create media for oppressed and suffering individuals and groups directly, we often partner with organizations whose hearts beat for similar issues of injustice and suffering. As examples, Discover The Journey has created media for organizations such as International Justice Mission, the Dispatch Foundation, and Food for the Hungry, and Asian Pacific Children's Fund.
