DTJ | CORE VALUES AND COMMITMENTS

Commitment to Love
All wars may not cease, poverty could always be with us, and children might continue to suffer. Regardless we Love. Despite conflicting appearances, we believe that Love is the ground and goal of all being. We are committed to a Love that eschews apathy and cynicism in favor of pursuing truth, justice and compassion. This Love has been revealed throughout history in such figures as Jesus Christ, Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., and Desmond Tutu.

Commitment to Truth
While recognizing our humanity, and thus fallibility, we nevertheless hold Truth as our highest goal when telling stories. Truth can be painful and disrupting. Truth awakens us to our own failures and can point out deep wounds in persons and societies. While our media, story-telling and intervention advocacy seeks Truth to expose wounds, it is only so they may be healed. Our commitment is to telling full stories, both the beauty and the pain, and to hold unwaveringly to Truth. Therefore, we do not spin or manipulate the stories.

Commitment to Story
We believe in the power of Stories. We are, in light of this, committed to telling the most compelling Stories as creatively as possible. None of these Stories belong to us. We are couriers of the voice of others, seeking to elevate the ones who are already speaking, and not to speak for them. Our commitment is to tell true Stories: Stories that celebrate the dignity and worth of each person, exhibiting the truth, including both the good and the evil.

Commitment to Excellence
Each photograph, story, minute of footage, piece of art and effort of advocacy is done with as much excellence and professionalism as possible. We honor the children in-crisis by telling their stories with excellence and protecting victimized children with DTJ’s stringent child protection policies. And we honorour supporters by running DTJ with excellence, including exacting financial accountability. We are grateful to the ones who give generously to our work and are committed to nothing less to see those gifts result in high impact.

DTJ will serve anyone suffering from injustices irrespective of race, religion, color, sex, age, physical or mental disability, sexual orientation and national origin.
