Some of the most fundamental human questions are those related to purpose: "What am I here for?" "Who am I?" Every individual has a unique role in the Grand Narrative and we each have a distinct pallet of talents and gifts that orient us in particular ways. Discovering what these are and how they play into the Greater Story can be a life-long journey and an exciting one. But we think purpose goes much deeper than our talents or giftings or strengths. We think it begins and ends with a man named Jesus.
Jesus' purpose was simple: to love His Father and love His neighbor, even to the point of death. Jesus' life of love, caring for the outcast, the leper, the unwanted and the child all spoke loudly of a heart that beat in unison with the knowledge that His purpose on earth was so much bigger than Him. He said Himself that He came to do the will of His Father, and to that end He labored.
We believe we, too, have been given that same purpose; to love the Father and our neighbor, and to do the will of Him who created us. What is the Father's will? Scripture simply says that God is love, and whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in Him. His will is that all should know Him. How do we become a part of that Story, where life and death are fought for at the foot of a cross, and pain and beauty are both woven into a Perfect Story that we can enter into?
The Story of Jesus laying down His life for the ones He loves, all of us, pushes us to ask if our stories might have something to do with laying our lives down also. If something was of infinite value, more than all precious stones or any amount of money, what would we be willing to give in exchange for it? Would we be willing to lay down our life? And what if that something was True Peace, Reconciliation and Love? And what if the Reconciliation spoken of was between man and God, forever?
We are convinced that the stories of injustice are a part of a bigger story of Love, one that has the power to literally change lives. Discovering your Journey might just start with discovering whom Jesus is, and if He really did turn water into wine, heal diseases and raise the dead. If it's true, that might just be the greatest story ever told, and the most important journey to discover.
